Say Goodbye to Universal Analytics

Universal Analytics is officially shutting down. Google is discontinuing UA to transition to Google Analytics 4 (GA4. By 01 July, users will lose access to UA data and interface. All UA data will also be permanently deleted.

Any business or agency that relies on UA for website maintenance needs to act quickly! All are advised to move to GA4 to avoid losing historical data. This shift was designed to focus on privacy and adaptability to future technology and regulations.

Though some users still prefer UA over GA4, they now have no other option. In March 2023, they automatically created a GA4 property for users and in July 2023, standard UA properties stopped processing data.

Here are a few more details:

  • Universal Analytics properties are identifiable by tracking codes starting with “UA-“.
  • Google has been automatically creating GA4 properties for users since March 2023.
  • Several features, including real-time reports and certain advertising capabilities, have already been deprecated.
  • There will be no visibility of historical UA bidding, audience or conversion data.
  • Universal Analytics 360 contract holders will no longer be able to create standard Universal Analytics properties.
  • Publisher or other product integrations (e.g. UA audience list, BigQuery exports, UA API requests) will be unavailable when services have stopped.

At Move Ahead Media, PPC is one of our main areas of expertise. Our team has been able to shift our accounts to GA4 successfully since last year. Our clients should not worry since our experts have been able to sort it all for them.

Say Hello to “Whee”, TikTok’s New Image Sharing Site

Does the world need another social media platform? TikTok seems to think so.

In their effort to expand engagement opportunities and tap into a broader usage trend, they launched the newest app experiment: WHEE.

Whee is almost like Instagram with the same feed of images designed to only be shared with friends. In their announcement, the content platform said: “Whee is a new social app created to keep you connected with your close friends through life’s spontaneous moments. Capture and share real-life photos that only your friends can see, allowing you to be your most authentic self. Whee is the best place for close friends to share life moments.”

But now you might wonder – what’s the difference between Whee and Notes?

To remind you, TikTok released Notes which is also a photo-sharing app in April. It is a “lifestyle platform” that offers a more broad audience type than Whee. Notes have informative photo-text content where you can see users sharing travel tips, cooking recipes, etc. It’s an Instagram-like public sharing platform, where Whee is focused on enclosed sharing.

Perhaps TikTok has launched this to provide users with further research insight for TikTok ad targeting. E-Commerce is their main market and it seems like it would relate to that somehow.

We’re interested to see what happens to Whee and how they entice users to download yet another app.

Do You Trust X As A Reputable News Source?

Reuters Institue for the Study Of Journalism is a UK-based research centre. It was founded in 2006 and is part of the University of Oxford and affiliated with Green Templeton College. They are dedicated to exploring the future of journalism through debate and research.

For the last few years, they have complied a “Digital News Report”. One of the main takeaways from this report is how people view X. The data is based on responses from more than 94,000 respondents from 47 nations.

Despite claims that X is doing well, reports show that users are actually leaning more on TikTok in many regions. Facebook has also gone down, but this can be linked to Meta’s conscious effort not to be connected with news coverage or political discussions.

Elon Musk’s goal of making X “the most trusted and truthful source” is far from reality. Many of the respondents noted the difficulty in determining the trustworthiness of content on X.

More Details On The Latest Google Search Spam Update

Google has announced another Search Update. This time, they are calling it “Spam Update”.

It comes in two parts, one this week and another one next week. These are one-day updates and will not roll out over multiple days like previous core updates.

They did not share much about the updates other than two X (formerly Twitter) posts, they said  “As part of our regular work to improve results, we’ve released a spam update to our systems.” However, they did link existing documents that mention spam prevention and web admin guidelines.

Google has been busy in the last 3 months. They have made multiple search updates such as:

  1. 08 April to 22 April: Product Reviews Update
  2. 02 June to 12 June: June Core Update
  3. 15 June to August: Page Experience Update
  4. Some time in July: July Core Update

If you notice any ranking changes this week, it might be related to this. Our team of SEO experts will keep you updated on the latest news.
